Shawn S. Choi is a multidisciplinary designer based in Vancouver. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communication design from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010. Since then, he has worked as both an in-house designer at a creative agency and a freelance designer for a broad range of clients, each with diverse design needs.

Shawn enjoys turning conceptual ideas into solid, working design. He stays pixel-perfect and detail-oriented through each work process because he believes those fine details are the true foundation of great work. Shawn approaches every project as an important milestone and a significant learning opportunity for his practice, pushing himself harder to bring out the highest possible quality while introducing new dimensions into the creative field. As a reflection of my background in communication design, his priority for any project is not only to create visual appeal, but always to design a piece that works and resonates with many.

In addition to design, Shawn is a sessional instructor at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Over the past few years, he has worked with many talented individuals and educators across the country, which enabled him to realize how important it is for a teacher to create a space in which students are encouraged to think outside the box and explore many approaches to a given design challenge. Shawn is passionate about supporting students’ efforts to experiment with new ideas while simultaneously perfecting their craft.

Shawn also takes joy in making contributions to his community, gratefully giving back what he has received during his youth. He regularly volunteers at the Vancouver Art Gallery, where he motivates young children to participate in activities that engage them in the art they are viewing. In addition, during his tenure at Skills/Compétences Canada from 2007 to 2016, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of careers in technology and skilled trades, he served as a co-chair for the National Technical Committee of Graphic Design, working with other committee members and educators across the country to identify sets of skills and techniques that should be tested, design project scope and judging criteria for evaluating secondary and post-secondary level competitors during annual skills competitions, and define a curriculum that includes unique projects each year.

If you want to say hello or learn more about his current projects, feel free to connect with Shawn via LinkedIn, Instagram, Dribbble, Behance, and Email.
